Summer travel plans are changing this year for many people because of the coronavirus, particularly for seniors, writes Alex Rose for the Daily Times.

“I’m not getting on any damn airplanes,” said 70-year author Robert McSherry of Edgmont. He’s also avoiding gyms and indoor restaurants.

He was looking forward to a 50th high school reunion in Maine, but that’s been cancelled.

Edie McFall, 80, of Ridley Park, had planned on a cruise up the Rhine River.  It, too was cancelled.

“I totally, totally understand that this is a first-world problem and that if the worst thing that ever happens to me is that I can’t go on a Rhine river cruise, I’ll be pretty fortunate,” she added.

Curran Travel in Blue Bell, co-owned by Bernie Dever, caters exclusively to seniors. Until senior centers open up again, his business has dried up.

He hopes is company can survive the pandemic with some belt-tightening and a possible loan.

Mary Moody, in the travel business for more than 33 years, said it’s the journey in a confined setting, not the destination, that’s the worry for a lot of people, whether it’s by plane, train or cruise.
