Tammy Miller, a security guard at the DaVita Cobbs Creek Dialysis center in Philadelphia, was recently honored with her own parade, writes Phil Anastasia for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The parade featured Yeadon fire and police vehicles. Proclamations honoring her were read by Yeadon Mayor Rohan Hepkins, State Rep. Joanna McClinton, and State Sen. Anthony Williams.

Miller was recognized for bringing sunshine into other people’s lives.

“She just radiates positive energy,” said Simone Iovacchini, the center’s facility manager.

Miller greets patients at the entrance with a smile and a song and she’ll escort them into the facility with a dance.

Inside, she gets them settled—setting the TV, offering a blanket, a drink, a snack, words of comfort and support.

DaVita arranged for Yeadon Borough to do a Drive By Wave with balloons, signs, decorations, horn honking and lots of smiles.

“It was overwhelming. It made me feel like what I’m doing really matters,” said Miller.

Nurse Jenna Honig said dialysis can be really hard for patients. Tammy Miller makes it a little easier.

“She knows all their names. She knows their life stories. She is so gentle and kind with all of them,” Honig said.
