Enough with sheltering in place. It’s time to eat al fresco.

With yellow phase conditions now in place, Havertownians looked forward to their first restaurant meal away from home, served in the balmy outdoors, reports TaRhonda Thomas for 6abc.com.

The new color coded change allowing outdoor dining came Friday, June 5.

“I’ve missed going out to dinner,” said Esther Cohen-Eskimo of Havertown. “I think this is long overdue to be able to eat outside.”

Even restaurants that didn’t offer outdoor seating are improvising some outdoor space now.

“What we’re doing is moving the sidewalk to the street so pedestrians can walk in the parking lane therefore allowing the restaurants to take up the whole sidewalk,” said Haverford Township Police Chief John Viola.

For now, restaurants like the Havertown Grille will have to get used to smaller crowds.

“I think I can put 10 tables out here, which would be 20 (people),” Havertown Grille owner Nick Haselisdis said, pointing to the sidewalk. “In my restaurant, we have 60 seats inside. So it’s still limited.”

He rushed to get outdoor furniture, even grabbing tables from his own home.

“This is Havertown. People are great,” he said. “Our customers support us.”
