Normally, Caeli Beatty would be focusing on her high school graduation as she prepared for her upcoming freshman year at Villanova University, reports the staff of mainlinemedianews.com.

But the pandemic put the graduation ceremony on hold, so Beatty is using her time to prepar grab and go lunches for senior citizens.

The lunches are organized by the nonprofit Surrey Services for Seniors, which operates senior centers in the area.

Those centers have been closed since March 13 out of health concerns, catching many senior citizens off guard.

“We wanted to ensure that those who depended on Surrey for nutrition and connection had support,” says Christi Seidel, Surrey’s Chief Operating Officer.

Now the Grab and Go lunch program runs out of Havertown, Media and Devon.

Caeli volunteered to work with the Surrey staff at the Devon location, preparing and packing the lunches.

She’s helped make the process of preparing 120 lunches three times a week run smoothly.

“Within a few days, Caeli knew the people picking up lunches by name. She chats with them, finds out how they’re doing and provides a much-needed friendly contact to people who might otherwise be alone and isolated,” Seidel says.
