Pennsylvania is among the top five states with the most coronavirus restrictions, according to new rankings published by WalletHub.

To determine the rankings for its list of States with the Fewest Coronavirus Restrictions, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across nine relevant metrics.

These included whether residents are required to wear a face mask in public, what travel restrictions have been imposed, and whether a state has ordered mandatory closings of non-essential businesses to the public.

Pennsylvania is in 47th place, or fifth from the bottom. This makes it one of the states with the most coronavirus restrictions, behind Hawaii, Rhode Island, District of Columbia, and Illinois.

Meanwhile, the state with the fewest restrictions is South Dakota, followed by Utah and North Dakota.

However, having less restrictions in some states or loosening restrictions in others, such as Pennsylvania, does not mean people will automatically flock outside.

“When states start to reopen their economies, many people will be hesitant to go out initially,” said Jill Gonzalez, WalletHub analyst. “It may take a while to shake lingering coronavirus fears,” considering that many people are even worried about the safety of having packages or food delivered to their homes.
