Delaware County Has 5,807 COVID-19 Cases, 491 Total Deaths

Delaware County has had 118 new COVID-19 cases reported since Monday, May 18, for a total of 5,807 cases in the county.

There are now 491 people from Delaware County who have died from complications of COVID-19, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

Of that total number, 384 occurred in a nursing home or personal care facility in the county.

Glenolden reported one COVID-19 death, with 34 of the county’s 49 municipalities now reporting fatalities.

The following is a breakdown of COVID-19 fatalities listed by the Chester County Health Department by community in descending order of deaths reported:

The virus is now reported in all 49 municipalities.

There are 243 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has been assigned.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 358 cases, affecting 3.12 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most reported cases, at 914, affecting 1.1 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

Pennsylvania data

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of midnight, May 19, that there are 610 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 63,666.

There are 4,624 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 119 new deaths.

Of the total deaths reported, 3,145 were in nursing homes and personal care facilities.

The southeast region of the state, which includes Delaware, Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks and Chester Counties, has the highest number of positive confirmed cases in the state, at 41,097.  The next highest number of cases in the state is in the northeast, reporting 12,163 cases.
