Hope Halliday’s pregnant daughter had hoped to find safety in her mom’s Media home, but she can’t find pre-natal care, writes Wendy Ruderman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Her daughter arrived from Brooklyn with her husband and 4-year-old son to escape the coronavirus that’s overrunning New York City hospitals.

So far every OB-GYN in the Philadelphia region has refused to see her because they aren’t taking new patients from New York, the national epicenter of the virus.

“I understand that our name is mud as New Yorkers right now and that everyone is scared of this virus, but there’s other ways to deal with it besides that. It seems unethical to blanketly state that we are not going to try to help you at all,” Halliday’s daughter said.

Joseph M. Gobern, chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Main Line Health, said any new patients from New York or other hard-hit coronavirus areas must self-quarantine for 14 days along with their support partner prior to an in-person visit.

The support partner can stay with the mom during labor and delivery, if screened and symptom free, he added.
