Coronavirus Update: Delaware County Cases Now at 2,281; 74 COVID-19 Deaths

Delaware County’s total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has increased by 226 and is now at 2,281, with three more deaths reported Friday, April 17, bringing the county’s death toll to 74, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

Of those 74 reported COVID-19 deaths, 49 occurred in a nursing home or personal care facility in the county, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Yeadon continues to lead in the number of county fatalities, at 13.

Middletown had one more fatality, joining Marple Township with 11 deaths each.

One more person from Nether Providence has also died, raising that township’s number to eight.

Darby Borough also had one more fatality, reporting that six people have died from complications of COVID-19.

Five deaths have also been reported among 862 cases under investigation to which no municipality has been identified.

Upper Darby and Haverford have three fatalities each.

Newtown, Lansdowne, Norwood, Springfield and Ridley are reporting two deaths each.

One fatality is reported each in Sharon Hill, Collingdale, Ridley Park, and Clifton Heights.

The virus is reported in 47 of the 49 municipalities, with no cases reported in Rutledge and Lower Chichester.

Yeadon Borough has the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 80 cases, affecting .7 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most reported cases, at 224, affecting .27 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

The county had 5,825 people test negative for the virus.

Pennsylvania data

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of midnight, April 17, that there are 1,706 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 29,441.

The department also reported 49 new deaths among positive cases, bringing the statewide total to 756.  Of those, 398 were in nursing homes and personal care facilities
