Crystal and Steven Ashby, owner of Crystal’s Comfort Food in Lansdowne, took their local wings and sauce on the road as one of seven contestants on the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race: Gold Coast,” premiering March 26, writes Peg DeGrassa for  the Daily Times.

“Most of our recipes are family favorites that have been upgraded and others are just dishes that I created in my head to be different than everyone else,” Crystal said. “Steven has learned all of the recipes and created some, too.”

Crystal started experimenting with food, especially wings and sauces, when they moved to Delaware and were less than thrilled with the neighborhood’s culinary choices. She hit on a winning wing sauce and kept getting requests for it.

They started a catering business that led in 2017 to Crystal’s Comfort Food at 7 Lansdowne Avenue.

A recent weekday saw customers out the door for take-out orders of soul food and wings.

It was a logical next step to try for a Food Network show. They made it on to “The Great Food Truck Race” and headed to California in mid-June for a six-week taping.
