Main Line Health has begun drive-thru COVID-19 testing in Newtown Square and Radnor while The University of Pennsylvania Health System has opened a drive-thru testing site in Radnor, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Main Line Health will test patients with a physician’s referral. The referral is required to “assure clinician triage and appropriate testing,” according to a Main Line Health spokesman.

University of Pennsylvania (Penn Medicine) said its testing, also offered in West Philadelphia, is on a “limited basis,” and they must register through their physician’s office due to the high demand for tests.

No co-pays or deductibles will be charged to Penn Medicine patients, and uninsured patients can get tested for free.

Main Line Health is talking with regional partners that include local departments of health about broadening the testing for less ill patients with coronavirus symptoms.

There are no plans to test people with no symptoms.

Jefferson Health is also opening mobile coronavirus testing sites in Center City, Abington, Northeast Philadelphia and New Jersey.

The testing locations will hopefully keep patients with coronavirus symptoms who don’t need emergency care from entering crowded emergency rooms.
