Interior decorator Lauren Nolan-Sellers of Trust the Vision Decor discusses her life and career at her home in Turnersville, N.J. Image via Tyger Williams, The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Lauren Nolan-Sellers went to Villanova University on a soccer scholarship and was captain of the university soccer team, but her destiny was less clear after graduation, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

She pursued a master’s degree in education and taught grade school in Philadelphia for seven years, but didn’t love it.

She was drawn instead to the renovation process she and her wife, Wendy, did on their first house in Norristown.

Her career path was sealed after she faced a life-threatening delivery of her first child. She decided it was time to pursue her dream of interior decorating.

“I had this life-changing epiphany. It was like, ‘You almost died!'” she said. “So I called the principal and was like, ‘I’m not coming back,’ and I hung up the phone and said, ‘What did I just do?’”

In 2012 she left teaching permanently to learn about interior decorating .

The 41-year-old started Trust the Vision Décor with Craigslist clients and now decorates for such notables as former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler.

Nolan-Sellers also runs an online Aspiring Designers Academy and a Facebook page with more than 31,000 followers.
