Rescuing cats from trees? Sure thing. Rescuing dogs from a roof? That’s a new one for firefighters, writes Pete Bannan for Main Line Media News.
Radnor firefighters got a call late Tuesday afternoon that two Labrador retrievers climbed out onto the roof of a three-story house on Amherst Circle and couldn’t get down.
Two residents sat with the dogs but couldn’t get them down, either, so they called firefighters for help, according to a Radnor Fire Company Instagram post.
Radnor Fire Chief Joseph Maguire and firefighters responded to the scene and used their ladder truck to reach the pooches and humans.
The dogs, along with the son of the owner and a second neighbor were brought safely down on the ladder.
“It was pretty wild. I never experienced that before,” said Radnor Fire Company director Eamon Branzus who assisted in the rescue. “There is a deck in the back of the house that goes up to the gutter line. The owners think they were chasing a squirrel.”
Radnor police reported that the family is thankful for the extra set of paws available to hang holiday lights in the coming weeks.
