Companies like SAP Americas in Newtown Square have achieved market leadership by providing great experiences, and CIOs play a critical role in that, writes Logan Crum for Philadelphia Business Journal.

SAP’s CIO Michael Golz focuses on helping SAP customers evolve and leverage software solutions to deliver high-value, experience-driven outcomes.

He was recently named the recipient of the 2019 PhillyCIO Leadership Award.

In his tenure with SAP, Golz has led Global Business Applications, Infrastructure, M&A integrations, and the SAP customer reference program.

In 2002, he was given a 2.5-year assignment to run SAP’s IT Infrastructure at the Newtown Square headquarters.  He’s still here.

With the rapid pace of technological innovation there’s a higher premium on personalization and a heightened urgency to create differentiation through innovation and experiences, Golz said.

At SAP, the focus is on helping customers become best-run businesses and Intelligent Enterprises.

“We all have our favorite brands and brands we avoid because of a bad experience. The parallel to IT is that we need to focus on the end user and how IT can help in delivering engaging experiences with customers, suppliers, employees, and partners,” he said.
