John Tintera of Haverford thought the student government at Millersville University could use some improvement, so he decided to change it from within, writes Carly O’Neill for thesnapper.millersville.edu.

“I wasn’t happy with the system so I decided that I’m going to try and run and be in this organization, and try to change it and make it a more professional and consistent organization,” he said.

Today, he is president of the Student Government Association while pursuing a double major in education and government and political affairs.

Tintera worked his way up the ranks. His first two weeks with SGA, he ran for a general executive member position on the board and won the role by the end of the semester.

He was appointed chief justice the following year, then decided to run for president.

One of his biggest accomplishments during his time in office was creating a new constitution and bylaws that helps give all the students a seat at the table.

This year, Tintera’s focus will be on advocacy and getting the word out about the SGA’s structural changes.

He hopes to encourage a climate of engagement, inclusivity, and support for students going forward.
