Here Are the Highest-Paying Jobs in the Philadelphia Region

It pays to have a medical degree in Greater Philadelphia, as four of the five highest-paying jobs in the region require one, write Brendan Ward and Kennedy Rose for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The ranking of the highest-paying jobs was compiled by the Philadelphia Business Journal using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics as of March 2018. It lists the jobs in the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metro area that pay more than $125,000 on average annually. Some general job categories, like managers, were excluded.

The highest-paying job in the region is an anesthesiologist with an annual mean salary of $271,470. Next are surgeons with $264,190 in average pay, followed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons at $252,850.

Obstetricians and gynecologists are in fourth at $250,370. The top five is rounded out by psychiatrists with $229,400.

Nos. 6-10 on the list are also reserved for the medical profession, with other physicians and surgeons in sixth place, family and general practitioners in seventh, and internists in eighth place. Pediatricians and nurse anesthetists are Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.
