Delaware County native Michael J. Engle is the new chairman at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s white collar defense, compliance and investigations practice group, writes Jeff Blumenthal for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The move was sparked by the pending retirement of James Becker, who has led the white collar practice group for several years.

Engle is a partner with Stradley, Ronon, Stevens & Young.

He will be joined by Stradley counsel Ashley Shapiro. The two mark the third and fourth newcomers in the white collar practice in the past year.

“I was excited by the chance to do this kind of work on a national scale and get the chance to lead a practice group,” Engle said. “I also liked that Buchanan focuses on a core group of industries such as energy, life sciences, health care and financial services.”

Engle graduated from George Washington University Law School in 2000 and worked largely as a solo practitioner before joining Greenblatt Pierce Engle Funt & Flores in 2013. Three years later, Stradley Ronon lured him to its ranks to start a white collar practice.

Buchanan Ingersoll has more than 70 of its 450 total lawyers situated in Philadelphia.
