Months of planning, preparation, and hard work by residents of Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square will come to fruition on Thursday, November 21, as the retirement community holds its annual Holiday Bazaar from 9 AM-3 PM.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The fundraiser features a great selection of attic treasures, Christmas trees, wreaths, decorations, delicious baked goods, unique arts and crafts, fashion jewelry, knitted and cross-stitched items, fresh holiday plants, raffle tickets for baskets of cheer, a $200 money tree, and resale clothing items and dishes.

Also available for sale are handbags, handmade and hand-painted birdhouses, and wildlife note cards and gifts. All of these holiday gift items are made by Dunwoody residents.

“The Holiday Bazaar has a two-fold function,” said Nancy Bloomfield, chairperson for this year’s event. “First is community building among the residents, as we work together to prepare and set up the event. Second is fundraising, as all proceeds from the event go to support the Dunwoody Village Residents’ Association.”

The Residents’ Association provides a variety of live entertainment programs throughout the year, such as classical, popular, and jazz music programs, lectures, and other performances.

“This is our big money maker for the year,” said Bloomfield, a Dunwoody resident for the past three years. “Residents and staff, as well as family members and the surrounding community, are welcome.”

This is Bloomfield’s first year helping to coordinate the Holiday Bazaar.

“I was politely asked to volunteer,” Bloomfield said. “So far, it has been wonderful. Everyone here knows what to do. I am just coordinating everything. I am just the problem solver, but there haven’t been many problems.

“Our residents begin preparing the arts and crafts items in the spring and summer. We have an army of creative people working diligently to put together this wonderful event.”

There will also be a brunch held from 11 AM-1:30 PM. All the food is prepared by Dunwoody Village’s dining staff. The cost for the brunch is $11.

“You just come and shop, buy some items, and have some food.” Bloomfield said. “Get your holiday shopping done early.”
