Beautiful landscapes and improving infrastructure keeps coming to Chester, thanks to a partnership of the Chester Storm Water Authority and Corvias Property Management, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

The goal has been to improve storm water management over 30 years, maintaining 350 acres that beautify the city and stimulate economic development.

The most recent improvements come from a $9.9 million PENNVEST award. It will be used to install 9,500 feet of pipe, 65 catch basins and 200 manholes.

The improvement project is expected to span decades and reap benefits for the city’s economy.

“The impact of the ongoing PENNVEST funding can be seen through the green infrastructure projects that have increased overall beautification and water quality throughout the city,” Keisha Brown, Corvias’ Partnership Liaison said.

So far, more than $24 million has been raised for the partnership. Green infrastructure projects at Veterans Memorial Park and Chester High School include newly installed bio-retention basins, rain gardens and catch basins.

In addition, 470 of the 1,700 catch basins identified for this project have been cleaned and assessed, resulting in 79,125 gallons of standing water removed and 27,500 gallons of debris removed.
