Radnor artist George Rothacker enters the realm of science fiction with a new novel that he wrote and illustrated, writes Linda Stein for Main Line Suburban.

The premise of “Singularity 1.0” asks what will happen when artificial intelligence links together, becoming smarter than the people who created it?

Rothacker did research into computer science, history and sociology to ground the book in reality. The book’s themes touch on religion, philosophy and technology.

Rothacker, 72, also owns Rothacker Advertising & Design in Media. He has been an artist since childhood, painting in acrylic on canvass.

Rothacker’s father, George, was an artist and taught art at the Upper Darby Library.

His mother, Marjorie, was an artist for Wanamaker’s and Gimbel’s. She played piano in a cocktail bar when the family moved to Upper Darby.

Rothacker started his own company in 1978. He has done numerous art fundraising projects for various groups, expanding his artwork to include images in Radnor and the connectivity of the Inner City to the Main Line.

Today, his work includes portraits of rock ‘n roll stars and writers.

“It’s a great deal of luck, timing, hitting a market,” he said. “There’s hard work, too.”
