Medical Marijuana facility Opens in Chester With the Promise of 100 Jobs

By

Chester officials celebrated the opening of Agri-Kind, a medical marijuana facility on Broomall Street with a ribbon cutting Saturday, writes Colin Ainsworth for the Daily Times.

“This day makes a huge milestone in the growth of our organization, and the growth of the redevelopment of Chester,” said Jon Cohn, CEO of the Exton-based Agronomed Pharmaceuticals,LLC, parent company of Agri-Kind.

The facility could employ as many as 100 workers. It sits on the site of a condemned highway building.

The Broomall Street firm will handle cultivation and extraction processing, sending finished oil, concentrate, topical creams and dried leaf to Pennsylvania dispensaries.

The company will target the east and central regions of the state, with possible expansion into the Pittsburgh market.

Agronomed has done extensive mapping of the 130-plus cannabinoids – the chemical compounds found in cannabis – and about equal number of terpene oils that complement the medicinal effects of cannabinoids.

The company is one of 13 approved in the second round of permitting by the state Department of Health, and only one of two in the southeast region.  It benefited from the city’s Act 47 status as a financially distressed municipality and the site’s brownfield status.
