It’s Elwyn Day Saturday, Oct. 19, that combines a festival with a 5K and Fun Walk, and everyone’s invited.
Elwyn Day has always been a celebration of the Elwyn family, a festival organized by the staff for the residents on the Media campus.
This year, the community is invited as well.
“We’re a big family here and we want everyone to come out and celebrate together, celebrate the work at Elwyn and what we do, celebrate the people that we support,” said Jennifer Shick, director of special events.
Elwyn’s always had fundraisers organized by the staff to pay for recreation and activities for the clients—a Beef and Beer here, an art show there.
The goal for Elwyn Day is to raise $25,000.
Besides fundraising, Elwyn Day gives everyone in the organization a chance to spend time together.
“We have folks that are just out on the road all the time working with kids,” Shick said.
There will be an 8 a.m. check in for the 5K. The race starts at 9. The Fun Walk starts at 9:15 a.m. An awards ceremony is 9:30 a.m.
The festival opens at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 11:30 a.m. A DJ will provide music. Food will be available, including doughnuts, apple cider and soft pretzels. In the event of rain, the festival will take place in the gym.
Registration and ticket purchase is necessary ahead of time on line to participate in the festival, Run or Walk.

Register before Labor Day, Sept. 2, and receive discounts on tickets for all three events. With discounts, cost for the 5K Run and festival is $35. Cost for the Fun Walk and festival is $20. Cost for the festival only is $15. Festival tickets are $10 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under 5 are free.
Sponsorships are still being sought for Elwyn Day. Click here for more information about the event, to register and to be a sponsor.
