The Philadelphia Union is hoping to spice things up a bit when it makes Captain Morgan its official spiced rum, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Major League Soccer club on Tuesday said it has formed a “comprehensive partnership” with Captain Morgan.

In addition to being the Union’s official spiced rum, Captain Morgan also becomes the club’s exclusive partner in the spirits category.

Financial terms of the deal are being kept confidential.

The announcement from the Union comes as part of a league-level partnership between Captain Morgan, a brand of rum produced by British alcohol conglomerate Diageo, and Major League Soccer.

“Their commitment to the Philadelphia Union, and the MLS as a whole, demonstrates a belief in the future and growth of our club and sport in the Philadelphia area,” said Jean-Paul Dardenne, senior vice president of Corporate Partnerships for the Philadelphia Union.

Under the terms of the agreement, a new fan cam filter on the scoreboard during halftime will feature Captain Morgan. The brand will also be introducing a fan participation reward program.

At the league level, custom-labeled bottles of Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum featuring official team colors will be produced and sold to fans of legal drinking age.
