The Upper Darby School Board looked at traffic impact and environmental studies May 28 tied to a proposed new middle school in Clifton Heights and an expanded Aronimink Elementary School in Drexel Hill, writes Kevin Tustin for the Daily Times.

KCBA Architects shared a traffic impact and phase 1 environmental impact study.

New turn lanes were recommended on N. Springfield Road and N. Oak Lane for the proposed Clifton Heights school at Clifton Fields on N. Springfield Road in Clifton Heights.

The new school has been opposed by Clifton Heights Borough Council, who this week adopted four amended ordinances tightening subdivision and land development in the hopes of fending off the district’s efforts to build the new school.

At the same time, Aronimink school needs more room as its projected enrollment jumps from 270 to 650.  As part of the district’s phase 1 capital improvement plan, the district would stop leasing the Walter M. Senkow school in Glenolden and move those students to the Kindergarten Center in Drexel Hill.

The Kindergarten Center is expected to move into Aronimink once an addition is built and district offices there converted to between 15 to 34 classrooms.  District administrators will lease space elsewhere.
