SAP’s Making Changes Worldwide and Closer to Home in Newtown Square

By

SAP is in the midst of major changes. After its $8 billion acquisition of Qualtrics, the European software giant — with North American headquarters in Newtown Square — is betting it can fend off competitors like Microsoft and Oracle by integrating its operational expertise with Qualtrics’ customer sentiment data, writes Michelle Caffrey for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

SAP has also seen departures in its top leadership, rolled out a restructuring plan affecting about 4,400 employees worldwide, set goals for boosting margins in its growing cloud business and drew the attention of activist investor Elliot Management.

SAP’s global transformation is also unfolding at its Delaware County campus, where more than 3,300 employees work every day.

Lloyd Adams, managing director of SAP North America’s East Region, said acquiring Qualtircs takes SAP beyond operational data to a new market category called experience management.

The restructuring reduced the workforce globally from 97,000 to 93,000 but there’s a plan to raise those numbers to 100,000 by the end of the year, Adams said.  Locally, the Newtown Square campus is a microcosm of what’s happening at SAP globally, so the “same level of new hiring and growth will be experienced here,” he said.
