Philadelphia-based health tech firm GlobalFit is acquiring Broomall-based employee wellness company Charge Group, writes Michelle Caffrey for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Charge Group offers insurance-funded health and nutrition programs to employees. Its 34 employees will join GlobalFit’s staff of 32. Both organizations plan to increase hiring next year.

Charge will be a subsidiary of GlobalFit, remaining in its Broomall office until all employees can be combined under one roof next May.

The acquisition stemmed from a partnership Charge and GlobalFit built over the past 18 months, as GlobalFit wanted to bring Charge’s nutritional coaching expertise into its fold.

The purchase gives GlobalFit’s more than 4,500 employer and insurer customers access to Charge’s services. Companies like Aetna, Johnson & Johnson and hotel giant Choice Hotels are among GlobalFit’s customers.

Charge’s service focuses on in-person, custom nutrition and wellness coaching, with most expenses covered by insurance. The three-year-old company counts more than 400 employer clients.

“Charge is a true complement to our existing fitness, mindfulness and wellness reimbursement solutions, and frankly a game-changer in our company’s evolution and our collective work with our insurer and employer clients to build a healthier population,” said GlobalFit CEO Anthony Frick.
