Foundation for Delaware County Grant Helps Fund EMS Simulation Lab

The Thomas Wolfarth EMS Simulation Lab is the first of its kind in Delaware County, writes Ginger Rae Dunbar for dailylocal.com.

“This lab is designed to allow Delaware County EMS agencies to practice using their own equipment in a setting that closely mimics the homes that they are dispatched to on a daily basis,” said Danielle Koerner, BS, NRP community outreach and AFN coordinator for the Department of Emergency Services.

The lab can be re-configured to create various settings for training and comes with three pediatric manikins.

It is named in honor of Wolfarth, who died at age 42 in June 2009 after battling brain cancer. He was chief paramedic for Delaware County Memorial Hospital and a Penn Star flight medic.

The simulation lab was made possible with a grant through the Foundation for Delaware County.

Frances Sheehan, Foundation president, noted they were able to use $7,000 from the Wolfie Fund and another $25,000 from the Foundation for a total grant of $37,000 to the Delaware County Board of Fire and Life Safety.
