CPR Ready Gets a Boost, Thanks to Foundation for Delaware County

By

This past spring, CPR Ready and The Foundation for Delaware County celebrated the completion of their first year of partnership.

CPR Ready is a campaign that strives to increase bystander response and cardiac arrest survival rates in Delaware County and surrounding counties.

The organization’s objective has been made possible through the support of the Foundation for Delaware County along with partners– the American Heart Association, Independence Blue Cross, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania Hospital, and the Independence Blue Cross Foundation.

Before it received a grant from The Foundation for Delaware County, CPR Ready had been looking for ways to extend its reach beyond Philadelphia.  This funding enabled CPR Ready, and its partners, to train Delaware County residents by organizing community CPR and AED workshops.

During its first year, CPR Ready trained 404 people at 11 CPR and AED workshops throughout Delaware County.

At three of these sessions, CPR Ready distributed a total of 75 CPR Anytime kits. These kits are part of CPR Ready’s train-the-trainer model, providing those who attended the class with the resources to train other people.

In the few months since the start of year two, CPR Ready has already hosted several events in Delaware County. The campaign has teamed up with the CPAT Network and Mobile CPR to lead hands-only CPR training for the Conestoga Boy Scouts, the Constellation Boy Scouts, the Lafayette Boy Scouts, the Ridley Springfield Girl Scouts, and the students at Delaware County Community College.

These events allowed an additional 142 community members to be trained in hands-only CPR and facilitated the distribution of 160 more kits.

CPR Ready has achieved considerable success thus far. Since the campaign was launched, 104,485 people have received hands-only CPR training, 130 AEDs have been distributed, and 945 CPR Anytime kits have been given out.
