Delaware County communities will come together Thursday, May 30, for the 43rd Annual Delaware County High School All-Star Hero Bowl game.

Preseason festivities begin 7 p.m. at Cardinal O’Hara High School, 1701 S. Sproul Road in Springfield.  Kick-off is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and available at the game.

Businesses throughout Delaware County support this annual event.

The Hero Bowl football teams represent more than 90 All-Star football players selected from the senior classes by the Delaware County Football Coaches Association. Cheerleaders were also chosen throughout Delaware County to participate and Delaware County high school runners run a half-time relay race.

The Hero Bowl game benefits the Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County, Inc.

The Fund, sponsored by Delaware County Council, was founded in 1977 to provide educational scholarships for the children of police officers, firefighters and EMS workers who died in the line of duty.

The scholarships recognize courageous community service and provide a program of assistance for a family that has suffered a serious loss.

To date, the Hero Bowl has raised more than $750,000 in funds for scholarships, benefiting 35 children of police officers and fire fighters.
