Members of Willows Park Preserve have presented their latest plans for renovating the Willows mansion to Radnor Township’s board of commissioners, writes Linda Stein for Main Line Suburban Life.

Built in 1910, the mansion was designed by renowned architect Charles Barton Keen. However, it has been empty for years as township officials could not agree on a proposal for its use.

Now, a group of residents funded by an anonymous donation of $1 million and $1.8 million in township money have stepped up to ensure the building is restored by presenting the latest renderings from Warren Claytor Architects.

The plan is “a big, forward-thinking vision that will pay dividends for generations to come,” said Tish Long, WPP’s president.

The plan will solve both the visible and invisible problems with the house. It will also remove some walls to create better flow, construct a new terrace, and create an indoor-outdoor addition to showcase the “sweeping pond views.”

Once complete, parts of the house would be open to the public during park hours. The building would also be rented for parties and other events 25 times a year to help with the costs.
