Nadia Fitzpatrick and Sydney Gelman, two 18-month-old girls from Ridley Township, have been chosen as Nothing Down’s international ambassadors for 2019, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Delaware County News Network.

Nothing Down is a nonprofit attempting to change the way people view Down syndrome by removing the stigmas associated with it. Its mission is to provide assistance to individuals and families touched by Down syndrome.

Thirty-three ambassadors were selected from more than 500 applicants from around the world. They will represent Nothing Down and assist it through community outreach and social media.

Donna Fitzpatrick and her husband, Leber, did not know much about Down syndrome before the youngest of their five children was born. Since then, they have become strong advocates.

“I liked their mission and wanted to support and be a part of this organization somehow,” said Donna.

Meanwhile, Sydney and her parents, Erin and Jesse Gelman, have previously appeared in a Nothing Down video in which parents shared their stories of birth and diagnosis.

“It has been my mission to bring awareness to Down syndrome and crush all the misconceptions about children who have been diagnosed with it,” said Jesse.
