Chester Native Wins Grammy Award
Chester native Jahlil Beats returned home from the 61st Annual Grammy Awards a winner after receiving a Grammy for his production work on a popular rap song, writes Colin Ainsworth for the Daily Times.
The win makes Beats, who was born Orlando Tucker, the first Chester native to bring home the music industry’s top prize.
“Chester, we did it, we’re on the map baby,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming. We got more work to do.”
Beats led the production of “Bubblin” based around Antman Wonder’s original composition. Wonder also received a Grammy for his co-production credit. The record was mixed by famed hip-hop producer Dr. Dre.
“It’s a dream; we worked for this,” said Beats.
