The University of Pennsylvania Health System officially broke ground on a $200 million outpatient facility in Radnor that will turn the former pharmaceutical laboratory and office space site into a modern medical campus, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Penn Medicine also entered into an agreement with Radnor-based Brandywine Realty Trust to develop and own the real estate being constructed. This includes the outpatient facility, an office building, a 1,000-space garage, and a hotel totaling 475,000 square feet of new space.

“I spoke to dozens of developers,” said Kevin Mahoney, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Penn Medicine. “I spoke with a hotel operator, medical office building developers. We thought about whether we should develop it ourselves. Brandywine was the best fit.”

The 250,000-square-foot outpatient facility will be developed on the part closest to Lancaster Avenue. The facility will have expanded medical services, including radiation oncology and chemotherapy services. It will also include six operating rooms.

The property at 145 King of Prussia Road covers 34 acres and is expected to be finished by the summer of 2020.
