State Reports More than 5,800 COVID-19 Cases in Delaware County, 472 Deaths

Editor’s Note: COVID-19 statistics were unavailable from the Chester County Health Department for Wednesday, May 20, because of a data delay from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The state’s information later became available and is presented here. State statistics do not include a municipal breakdown of COVID-19 cases and may be slightly different than the numbers reported out of local health departments.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of midnight, May 20, that there are 5,844 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County.

It is reporting 472 deaths in the county.

There were 746 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in the state, bringing the statewide total to 64,412.

There are 4,767 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 143 new deaths. Of those, 3,172 occurred in nursing homes and personal care facilities.

The southeast region of the state, which includes Delaware, Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks and Chester Counties, has the highest number of positive confirmed cases in the state, at 41,535.  The next highest number of cases in the state is in the northeast, reporting 12,264 cases.
