Auto dealers across the Greater Philadelphia region, including 37 from Chester County and 21 from Delaware County, are joining forces again to ensure kids in need stay warm this winter, writes Donna Rovins for the Daily Local News.

For its annual Driving Away the Cold initiative, the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation will distribute 51,696 new winter coats to children in need over the coming weeks.

According to Kevin Mazzucola, the foundation’s executive director, the original goal was to focus on improving the lives of local children. The foundation said winter coats are among the most requested items from social service agencies and school nurses.

All participants in the Driving Away the Cold help raise money for the coats. Also, the Auto Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia donates $2 from every ticket sold for the Philadelphia Auto Show.

This year, a total of 6,100 coats will be distributed in Chester County and 8,100 will be delivered in Delaware County.

“A new, quality winter coat does so much more than keep a child warm,” said Mazzucola. “It provides them with a great sense of pride.”
