The Crozer-Keystone Community Foundation has selected two local nursing students to receive scholarships from the Eva Miller Scholarship Fund, made possible by Gerald Miller in memory of his mother.

“When Gerry so generously established this nursing scholarship, we agreed to tackle the nursing shortage from both directions,” said CKCF President Frances Sheehan. “First, we wanted to assist a student entering the field of nursing by working with Delaware County Community College, and second we wanted to work with Widener University’s doctoral nursing program to assist a student who will research and teach in the future.

“We need more nurses and we need more nursing professors; this dual-approach scholarship sets out to help meet both needs.”

Yeadon resident Ijeoma Innocentia Maduagwu, a nursing major at Delaware County Community College, received a $2,500 scholarship. Currently working as a patient care technician, Maduagwu has been inspired through her healthcare experience to pursue a career in nursing. Upon receiving her associate degree, Maduagwu plans to go on for her bachelor’s in nursing and continue with her studies to become a nurse practitioner specializing in women’s health.

Lansdale resident Meg Ambrose Hall, a doctoral student at Widener currently working on her doctoral dissertation on the topic of end-of-life care in the critical care unit, received a $5,000 scholarship to support her research expenses. Her years of experience in nursing inspired her to pursue nursing education so she may assist in preparing student nurses for their careers.

Hall currently works as a critical care registered nurse at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery and as an adjunct professor at Villanova University.
