A new mural celebrating Lansdowne’s 125th anniversary was officially dedicated over the weekend by borough officials and residents, writes Kevin Tustin for the Delaware County News Network.

The mural has been installed in the heart of the borough’s business district at Lansdowne and Baltimore avenues. It was created by artist James Shuster to show how storefronts used to look at that corner. The top of the mural has a “Welcome to Lansdowne” banner, with each of the letters highlighting one of the borough’s features.

“When we were discussing the 125th, I suggested the mural because I wanted to do something that would be a lasting celebration of Lansdowne’s history and the 125th,” said Mayor Tony Campuzano.

Campuzano called the mural the perfect fit to cover up a dull-looking wall that had been there for decades.

The final concept was agreed to through discussions with Campuzano, historian Matt Schultz, and artist Richard Prigg. Their inspiration came from old photographs found in a book on the borough’s history.

The carefully drawn panels took Shuster months to create before bring placed onto their permanent home.

“We all agreed instantly this probably would be a good thing,” said Campuzano.
