An interactive map published by Keystone Crossroads and using data from 2015 shows how many criminal cases were handled by public defenders across Pennsylvania, according to a report from WHYY.

In Chester County, public defenders handled 3,900 cases, and $2,044 was spent per case, which is $7.40 per capita.

Meanwhile, in Delaware County, public defenders handled 6,418 cases, and $1,236 was spent per case, which is $6.72 per capita.

Most public defender offices across the state do not actually monitor their own case statistics. Those that do tend to use estimated figures for when they have to go to county commissioners for extra funding.

Pennsylvania is an anomaly compared to other states, as it does not provide state funding or oversight.
