After years of trying for and being denied a polling place, Haverford College students will be able to vote on campus for the November election, writes Susan Snyder for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Thanks to support from both the college and nearby residents, the Delaware County Board of Elections voted earlier this week to move the precinct’s polling place from Coopertown Elementary School to the campus.

To get the approval, the college assured the board it would make sure both students and residents had a pleasant voting experience.

“It met all the requirements, and the college went out of its way to be accommodating to all voters,” said Election Board Chairman Carmen Belefonte.

Students are the majority of the voting body in the precinct, but most do not have cars. Prior to this decision, they had to walk a mile and a half to reach Coopertown Elementary. Shuttles provided by the college were also not a good alternative as it took students over an hour to catch a ride, vote, and return.

“It’s really exciting that students are going to have better access to the polls,” said Sam Epstein, a senior chemistry major.
