Thanks to American Airlines, Philadelphia-area travelers can begin booking flights to four new European cities, writes Catherine Dunn for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The airline is adding flights from Philadelphia International Airport to Edinburgh, Scotland, beginning in April, and to Berlin; Bologna, Italy; and Dubrovnik, Croatia, starting in June.

American is looking to build on the popularity of two new routes it added this summer from Philadelphia to Prague and Budapest.

“They both have done extremely well for us out of Philadelphia, and so we’re going to go do more of it,” said Vasu Raja, American’s vice president of network and schedule planning. “This is going to create a ton of new markets. We are excited for the future of Philadelphia.”

American also announced it is canceling three other routes out of Philadelphia: service to Glasgow, Scotland; Frankfurt, Germany; and a year-round daily flight to Munich, Germany.

“In the current fuel environment, it’s important for us to make sure we are using our assets wisely, and these flights were just not performing as well as we needed them to,” said American spokeswoman Leslie Scott.
