Neumann University graduate Rick Iannucci is helping others heal through his nonprofit Horses for Heroes, according to a profile on him in Accent, a magazine for Neumann University alumni, family, and friends.

Iannucci said he’s always had cowboy blood running through his veins. He decided to fulfill his passion and combine it with the magic of horses through his unique program that incorporates horsemanship, wellness, and a skill-set restructuring.

A former Green Beret and U.S. Marshal, Iannucci is certified in pastoral crisis intervention. His nonprofit is based in Santa Fe, N.M., and is free for all post-9/11 veterans and active military personnel.

“The goal is to reconnect, re-create, and reintegrate,” said Iannucci.

The decade-old program is tailored for each veteran. It starts with them connecting to a horse, before even attempting to get in a saddle. Once settled, veterans participate in other aspects of ranch life.

“We’re veterans helping veterans, and we are a national program,” said Iannucci. “We ask them to give us at least 10 days at a time.”
