Timothy Kirk, a Ridley High School graduate and soldier in the U.S. Army, had not seen his sister, Theresa Hencinski, in four years.

But, he made it back home to celebrate her graduation from Ridley High School before she goes off to college, writes Kathleen Carey for the Daily Times.

Kirk, 26, is fresh off a tour of Afghanistan. Hencinski, 18, plans to go to Penn State to study clinical psychology. She then plans to head into the U.S. Air Force, where she hopes to help treat people with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Hencinski said her older brother has inspired her with his accomplishments, motivating her to achieve her own.

At Ridley, Kirk was a scholar/athlete known for his wrestling prowess. He graduated third in his class and attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned an undergraduate degree in nursing.

After passing his nursing board exams, Kirk enlisted in the Army and became a Ranger. He was based in Alaska before a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. In May, he returned to Alaska, where he is now transitioning to become an Apache helicopter pilot.

“My brother’s always been ambitious,” Hencinski said. “And whenever he has a goal in mind, he does whatever he can to get to that. I always thought that was admirable.”
