Ridley Township Zoning Board Gives Green Light to New Wawa

By

Ridley Township’s zoning board has given the green light for Wawa to build a new store with gasoline services on the site of a former Gulf gas station, writes Barbara Ormsby for the Daily Times.

The 4,700-square-foot store on the corner of Chester Pike at Acres Drive will be Wawa’s sixth store in the township. The approval was given at the end of a recent zoning hearing, during which Wawa asked for 11 variances for the property zoned “C-1” Neighborhood Commercial.

Before the hearing, Wawa conducted two other informational meetings with township residents in the Leedom area. At the hearing, there was no opposition to the proposed development. One suggestion brought forward by resident Doris Bartlett was to change the color of the screen fencing from white to a light brown. This was accepted and included as one of the conditions for the development.

Attorney Mark Damico, who represented developer Lordston Equities, also informed the zoning board members that the site was not quite big enough. This led to the acquisition of an additional parcel at the rear of the station.

“We worked really hard to make it work,” said Damico.
