People analytics, like spotting behavioral patterns, can help employers and managers predict which team members are getting ready to leave, writes Anne Loehr for Fast Company magazine.

The untapped data floating around every workplace can be used to find behavioral patterns. This can help managers and employers get ahead of key issues, such as employee attrition.

For example, an analysis of some basic data in a call center – such as the length and number of calls each operator took, along with the outcome – can show whether an employee is merely going through the motions.

A conversation with employees can also reveal easy-to-address problems. By getting on top of these issues, attrition in the call center halved.

Another way is to look for early signs of dissatisfaction. Among the best ways to do this is to ask employees how they are feeling. Generally, an increase in requests for time off is also a sign of someone getting ready to leave.

Another trick is to follow your employees’ LinkedIn accounts. Usually, when somebody is looking for a new job, they will update their “Skills” section.
