Get the Scoop on Sports Journalism at Delaware County Press Club’s Upcoming Luncheon

Daily Times reporter and assistant sports editor Matthew De George will discuss his experiences as a sports journalist on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at the Delaware County Press Club’s luncheon at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester.

De George has worked at the Daily Times since 2010 as a copy editor and reporter. His beats include the Philadelphia Union, as well as a number of high school sports.

He is the author of two books on the history of swimming: Duels in the Pool: Swimming’s Greatest Rivalries and Pooling Talent: Swimming’s Greatest Teams. He covered the 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials and has covered events in 18 different sports – and counting.

A graduate of Saint Joseph’s University, De George earned the 2013 Bruce Bennett Award for national curling writer of the year. His work includes frequent appearances on local radio, as well as television and podcast work.

Also speaking at the luncheon is Carl Cherkin, Vice President of Business Relations for the Philadelphia Union.

Following the speakers and lunch, a small group of attendees will have the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium.

Networking begins at 11:30 AM followed by lunch at noon. The public is welcome to all Press Club lunches. Cost for February’s lunch is $20, payable by cash or check at the door. Please RSVP here by noon on Feb 19.
