The Brandywine River Museum is hosting “The Way Back” – an exhibit that showcases the works of one of its founders, George “Frolic” Weymouth – writes Dara McBride for the Wilmington News Journal.

The exhibition is considered the first comprehensive look at the full career of the late artist. Also, according to his son, Mac Weymouth, only three images on display are not in some way related to the Big Bend, his father’s historic Chadds Ford home.

George, who was also a conservationist and philanthropist, was one of the founders of the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art more than a half-century ago. He died two years ago aged 79, while plans for the exhibition were already under way.

“The Way Back: The Paintings of George A. Weymouth” officially opened on Jan. 27, with around 700 people attending the members’ opening the day before.

Entering the exhibit for the first time on Jan. 24 was a proud moment for Mac.

“It was a way of seeing him again,” he said of his father.

The exhibit will be on display until June 3.
