Democrats are urging Gov. Tom Wolf to reject the new Republican-proposed congressional map of Pennsylvania as it is still biased in favor of the GOP, write Liz Navratil, Jonathan Tamari, and Jonathan Lai for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Gov. Wolf’s administration is currently going over the proposal with the help of a prominent mathematics professor. He is expected to announce his position on the revised map sometime this week.

The map was submitted by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati and House Speaker Mike Turzai last Friday night. They are attempting to meet the deadline set by the state Supreme Court to redraw the current borders.

“The map that Republicans put forward last night does practically nothing to fix the partisan gerrymandering that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court found violated the state’s constitution,” said Eric Holder, chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.

However, Scarnati and Turzai believe that the revised map does in fact comply with the court’s order. Their staffers say that factors, such as population and municipal boundaries, were given greater weight than political parties during the redrawing process.
