Singer-Songwriter from Springfield Has Eventful Trip Home for the Holidays

By

Valerie Broussard

Singer-songwriter Valerie Broussard, a Springfield High School graduate, flew in from Los Angeles for the holidays expecting to spend some time with her family and friends.

Instead, she ended up in the emergency room, spending part of her time home at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, according to a report in Hellenic News of America.

Broussard had not been feeling well before her trip home. She thought she was battling a common cold. In the early hours of Dec. 21, she went to the emergency room at DCMH when the abdominal pain she was experiencing would not subside.

The accomplished musician – whose songs have been featured on television – had some tests taken, and she learned she had appendicitis.

Appendicitis surgery requires a short post-procedure hospital stay. As brief as her stay was, Broussard was thankful for the team who cared for her at the hospital.

Broussard’s visit was a homecoming in more ways than one. She was born at DCMH and was cared for in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Now back in California, Broussard is working on her debut album.

“I’m so happy I wasn’t in L.A. when this happened,” she said. “I’m glad I was home with my friends and family. I’m glad I was at DCMH.”
