Babies R Us is closing its Exton location as part of a larger nationwide closure plan that affects 182 stores, but the Toys R Us in Media will remain open, writes Alison Burdo for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The store at 104 Bartlett Avenue in the Main Street at Exton is one of four stores in Greater Philadelphia that are being affected by the latest wave of closures. The other stores are in Horsham and New Jersey (Burlington and Cherry Hill).

Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy last September. With the latest closures bringing the total to 182, the company is decreasing its real-estate footprint by around a fifth.

CEO David Brandon said in a letter to customers that the company had to make some tough decisions about its priorities and the best way to focus on the future.

“We also intend to convert a number of locations into co-branded Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores,” he said. “The actions we are taking are necessary to give us the best chance to emerge from bankruptcy proceedings as a more viable and competitive company.”
