The 17th Annual Run for Heroes, a 5K Run/Walk that benefits the Delaware County Hero Scholarship Fund, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8 at 9 AM at the Springfield Township Municipal Complex on 50 Powell Road.

Since 2000, the Run for Heroes has admirably raised almost $500,000 for the Hero Scholarship Fund, which benefits the children of police, firefighters, and emergency responders who’ve died in the line of duty. To date, the Hero Scholarship Fund has paid or is paying for the college education of 34 people.

“Police officers, firefighters, emergency responders – they are special people,” said John McFadden, a Run for Heroes committee member. “They help us every day, and this is a way to give back to them. Any day, anything can happen to them. And we’re happy to play a small role in letting them know that the community supports them.”
