An exhibition displaying Andrew Wyeth’s life and work through the eyes of his family recently opened at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., writes Dodie Kazanjian for Vogue.

The exhibition is co-curated by the famous painter’s only granddaughter, Victoria Wyeth, who frequently gives lectures on her grandfather. She assembled the exhibition as it annoyed her to see her grandfather remembered as a dour and crusty recluse.

Famous more for painting bleak scenes of country life in Chadds Ford and Maine, she hopes that this display, “Andrew Wyeth at 100: A Family Remembrance,” will show people the fun side of the man she spent all her childhood summers with.

“It’s time the world saw the Andy in Andrew Wyeth,” she said.

The exhibition features 10 paintings and 21 drawings, as well as a painting by his son Jamie and 20 photographs by Victoria.

Victoria will also present more of her photographs in a show called “My Andy,” which opens on July 12 at the Greenville County Museum of Art in South Carolina. This date has special meaning for the young photographer as it would have been her grandfather’s 100th birthday.
